Root Canal Treatment
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is among the most frequently performed dental procedures, with well over 14 million completed each year. This straightforward treatment offers the potential to rescue your natural teeth and eliminate the necessity for dental implants or bridges. Deep within your tooth lies the pulp – a network of blood vessels that contributes to the development of the surrounding tooth structure. Infection of the pulp may arise due to tooth trauma, extensive decay, fractures, or recurrent dental interventions.
Cracked Teeth
A cracked tooth is a problem because it reduces the strength of your tooth. When a cracked tooth is left alone, it could turn into a more serious problem. Plaque and tartar in the mouth are able to seep into the cracks and create decay and further damage. The problems can even move beyond the teeth to the gums and bone.
On its own, a cracked tooth is easier, quicker, and less expensive to fix than more extensive problems that could result from ignoring it. That’s why it’s smart to take care of this type of problem as soon as you or a dentist notices it.
Apicoectomy
Generally, a root canal is all that is needed to save teeth, which have injured pulp, from extraction; occasionally, this procedure will not be sufficient, and your endodontist may recommend surgery.
Endodontic surgery may be used to locate fractures or hidden canals that do not appear on X-rays but manifest in pain in the tooth. This procedure may also be used to treat damage to the root surfaces or the surrounding bone.
